Industrial Design

Industrial design is defined as "creating and developing concepts that optimize function, value and appearance."

The process begins with ideation/brainstorming to discover potential design solutions. From this, initial concepts are created and refined. Sketches are done, 2D and 3D models are created, renderings are generated and prototypes then made for research and testing prior to production.

Concept Ideation & Visualization

Industrial Design Concept Ideation

It begins with an idea and a visual representation. A number of concepts are generally created with the most promising selected for further development and refinement.

2D and 3D CAD

2D and 3D Computer Aided Design, CAD,  highly sophisticated computer programs are the basis for the product development process. Detailed product data is consolidated into drawings which are then linked with rapid prototyping CNC and SLA machines to create works like/feels like models.

Photo-Realistic Renderings

Using 3D models, photo-realistic renderings can be created that can be used throughout the product development process to make design decisions and quickly create variations of concepts. Renderings are also used for marketing and presentation purposes.

Engineering Development Support

The focus of Engineering Development is to ensure that by using the lastest technologies and techniques the design details align with achieving optimum manufacturing level, i.e., material selection, tolerances, wall thicknesses, etc. Prototyping is essential at this phase for testing and evaluating layout, ergonomics, aesthetics, etc.

Prototyping

Rapid prototyping capabilities are available including SLA and CNC technology. Physical comps and models can be produced quickly that can be evaluated and provide important feedback regarding design direction. Quite often this is an iterative process with more than one version created. Conventional techniques including molding and casting are also available. Typically  prototypes are created for visual evaluation, proof of concept, testing or for marketing and presentation purposes.

3D SLA Printing

Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing technology is used for producing models, prototypes, patterns and production parts one layer at a time by curing a photo-reactive resin with a UV laser. This process creates highly precise models from 3D CAD in both clear and opaque plastic in a very short time.

CNC Machining

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines are automated milling devices that make components without direct human assistance. They use coded instructions that are sent to an internal computer, which allows parts to be accurately and quickly produced.

Vacuum Forming

The technique of Vacuum Forming is used to shape a variety of plastics to a mold. This process produces parts from sheet material in both clear, tinted and in a variety of colors and textures and is commonly used in creating blister packs for packaging and other consumer products.

Silicone Casting

Silicone Casting is used to easily reproduce finely detailed parts in many different flexible and rigid urethanes. Custom colors are available.

Rotational Casting

Rotational Casting is an extremely versatile process that produces a hollow product in many different shapes and sizes and can be squeezable. A variety of urethane materials are available in many colors.

Custom Painting & Decorating

We offer many different types of painting and decorating techniques. Color matching and custom labels can be created and applied to complete your prototype.
